buy now pay later web app

creating a new experience for customers looking to layby products for purchase

project background

Buy now pay later has become a dominant genre of the online payment sector. Many companies offer some form of delayed payment, but almost all of them only allow for instalments of a limited number, which means many expensive purchases are still beyond the reach of average Australians. Enter Planpay, a new way of paying in instalments. Planpay will allow customers to vary both their instalment frequency as well as their instalment amount for purchases with longer lead times, (such as vacations, weddings, etc). I was asked by the business to design the user experience and app UI for both the customer facing, and merchant services.

defining the user

Understanding the customer profile of who would use this app / service was key in creating the experience. Using data supplied by our sister company Afterpay combined with a market analysis of various B2B software experiences, personas were created to aid in designing the various layouts required.

designing the interface

The design was separated into two distinct formats. One interface required for the merchants using the Planpay service to run reports on transactions and view order data from their customers. Another interface required by the average consumer choosing to purchase a product online with Planpay, with views of how many payments were left to complete and

the ability to make instant payments and manage their plans all from the convenance of their phones.

prototype and test

User experience testing was carried out, along with surveys to better understand both how people would use the features of the app and what key functions they found to be the most valuable. High fidelity interactive mocks were provided to complete this phase of the project.
