defining the UX @Openn
designing, testing and refining the Openn app experience
project background
Openn is an online platform that enables real estate agents to list properties for sale in Australia and New Zealand. In 2022 I was hired to run the design efforts across the app and web experiences. During this time I delivered a number of upgrades to the user experience, specifically in the areas of user onboarding, uploading and managing files in the app and improving the mobile experience overall.

Given the complex nature of the service, understanding the key user journeys was critical. Early and often communication with technical leads and various product owners helped to define requirements
flows and defining requirements
and shape the steps needed by the user to complete a task. These steps were translated into detailed user flows that could clearly articulate and segment the steps back to leadership. In some cases multiple flows for the same task were created and surveyed internally against the product roadmap for feasibility. The final user flows were then built out into screens that could be tested and delivered.created and managed the design system
In order to build the layouts defined in user flows and to have consistency across the experience a design system was created and built. The initial design assets were assembled in Adobe XD and published as components with a clear naming hierarchy and structure so it could scale as more assets were added. A series of frames within the XD application were also built out as dynamic webpages that would update alongside feature releases to inform both internal designers and developers on the correct structure, naming and usage. With a distributed development team across Australia, India and the US this was critical in delivering updates and building views needed for the product.
developed interactive prototypes to aid in delivery and testing
Utilising the design system and requirements from the business, detailed screens were designed and linked together to form the foundation of prototypes that could be used to explore interaction patterns, tested with small user groups via online testing tools such as Maze and provided to build teams for delivery. The in-built functions of Adobe XD's commenting tool and workflows with creative cloud allowed for fast collaboration with many business stakeholders and expedited delivery to dev teams offshore.
